What is Homestead Exemption?

  • Homeowners who reside in their home permanently and are Florida residents as of January 1 may qualify for Homestead Exemption.
    This exemption can reduce the assessed taxable value on their home as much as $50,000, which is an approximate annual savings of $750.
  • In addition, the assessed value used to calculate property taxes cannot increase more than 3% annually after receiving the Homestead Exemption.

The deadline to file for Homestead Exemption is March 1, 2024 .

You must meet the following requirements as of January 1st:

  • Have legal or beneficial title to the property, recorded in the Official Records.
  • Reside on the property.
  • Be a permanent resident of the State of Florida.
  • Be a United States citizen or possess a Permanent Residence Card (green card)

  • Florida Driver's License or Florida ID card for all owners residing on the property.
  • Social Security Number
  • Permanent Resident Card (Non-US Citizens)
  • Proof of Florida Residency - (Examples may include: Florida voter registration, Florida vehicle registration, Employment Verification, Bank Statement, School location for dependent children, Proof of payment for utilities)
